I'yard so confused! I've been trying to gradually reduce the amounts of chemicals we use around the house and making an effort to go as natural and organic as possible. In addition to covering my kids with long sleeves and pants and mosquito netting whenever possible I want to notice a sunscreen and bug repellent for those "unavoidable" situations.

I've been researching sunscreens and insect repellents for kids and have come up across opposing recommendations. I know that for infants a "barrier" type sunscreen is best, but are the organic/natural-based sunscreens this blazon? I'm specifically looking at California Infant or Jason's, but open up to suggestions.

Also, I read that the CDC and AAP both recommend using a DEET based insect repellent because they are proven effective, and to avoid anything with lemon eucalyptus and citronella because not enough research has been done on these...simply many natural formulations include these ingredients as alternatives to DEET.

And so what'due south a well-pregnant mom to exercise?

I find my product recommendations on the Environmental Working Groups Cosmetics Prophylactic Database. Y'all can await up anything-insect repellent, sunday screens, soaps, lotions, etc. They will give you a list of ingredients and the safety rating for the ingredients and the products. I looked upwardly insect repellent and I noticed Fizz Away got a very low score. I bought this in a health nutrient shop and used it when I was pregnant on a trip to Puerto Rico. I was in the aforementioned gunkhole final year. We tried a bunch of dissimilar natrual repellents, but none of them worked. We utilize the Cutter "Skinsitive" (I think that's what it's called). It has the lowest concentration of DEET and seems to piece of work well. The manner I recollect almost it is: I'd rather use DEET than have them get bitten by a dangerous mosquito or worse even so a tick. Good luck.

I personally use the natural repellents - I honestly can't believe that lemon or other natural things would be as harmful as DEET! The simply reason the CDC says that is to comprehend their butts in case of lawsuits. No one is going to study all natural products for safety considering there is no money in information technology for the big companies - and just considering the CDC says so, doesn't go far true, trust me. =)

Hi T.. I have tried the majority of bugsprays out at that place that exercise non comprise DEET. Honestly, none of them worked well at all. My MD suggested finding the 1 on the shelf with the lowest percentage of DEET. They all have how much DEET they have in them, correct on the front end of the tin. Yous take to weight the options. I recently received an email saying that Listerine (the original medicinal kind) works well as an insect repellent. I judge you just spray information technology around the surface area to continue them away. I have not tried it yet, simply I do plan on it. Although, I'thou not really certain if yous can spray it on your skin or what exactly is in it.

We live up in NH and get more than bugs than I care to count, we purchased 2 mosquito magnets (1 for front and i for the dorsum) after trial and error about where to place them based on our activities in the m, we have seen a huge reduction. If you can observe a similar particular that is solar powered you can place it anywhere in the thou.

But it doesn't cover ticks etc, so nosotros all the same utilize boosted precautions (lowest Deet available) when we are nosotros are abroad from our 1000 or out nigh dawn/dusk. Followed by vigorous washing of wearing apparel and bodies when everyone comes in.

I too only spray issues spray on my childrens wearable, never on their skin. I use to spray it on the lower part of the stroller, wheels, etc to keep the bugs abroad!!!

We use Avon'southward Pare So Soft - it'southward amazing. In the four years we've used information technology - not a unmarried mosquito seize with teeth on the kids. I've started using now as I use to get eaten alive.

I understand your business organization. I think you'll be able to find more than organic/natural sunscreens without too much outcome. Check with the Pedi about sunscreen on the babe merely my agreement is that its better to cover your baby and then after 6 months of age apply sunscreen (but withal attempt to comprehend him/her as your kickoff line of defense force).

Equally for bug repellant, specifically tick protection....my daughter got Lyme disease when she was 2 (she's now 4) so we've been down this route. I've tried Deet products, Picardin products and natural products. My opinion is that they all piece of work to some capacity. I alive in a very wooded area near a brook with deer effectually so mosquitoes and ticks are everyday things that happen this time of yr. The Picardin products worked fairly well for us but because of where we live I keep the Deet products on hand, as well (low percentage though). I've become a fan of the Pare Then Soft by Avon. I'm also going to try to launder my family unit's cloting in eucalyptus oil (something my mom recommended but not sure if information technology works) to help repell them. I of the best means to protect my kids is to thoroughly check for ticks on them after they've been outdoors. The deer ticks (the ones that are really small - about the size of a pin head) are the ones that acquit the Lyme. BTW, I've alreay pulled a few ticks off my family...and we're not even into heavy "tick season" nevertheless.

All natural things dont ever work. I've tried different natural problems repellents, and the only one I have establish that seems to work pretty well is "Herbal Armor" past All Terrain. It does have citronella in it- just I don't see whatsoever safety concerns almost information technology- unless a kid were to beverage information technology. I wouldn't spray anything you use on a child, because then yous risk them inhaling the spray, simply either spraying it on your hand fist and rubbing it on, or going with a cream, would limit exposure to anything you utilise. I just don't experience right most using DEET- it has been "ok'd" in children but if used on dress and not touching their peel in any mode- only usual usage oft involves more unintentional contact with it.

Honestly? We use Cutter in the family version. It'south DEET-gratis and information technology works well. I get the spray, and use it ONLY on the girl's clothing, I don't spray their pare. I exercise the aforementioned for myself.

You might also try a gardener's and golfer's trick. Take a fabric softener sheet, the kind you lot stick in the laundry dryer, and tuck information technology into a pocket here and there. It keeps abroad pesky biting insects, because they don't like the aroma.

I call back the California Baby sunscreen and problems repellent is a adept option. Information technology'due south pricey--just gets great ratings from EWG (another person gave that link--I think it's aweseome for figuring out how to take care of my family w/out lots of chemicals). And, if you're not in a malaria area (though you may be in deer tick country?) then I'm guessing a better chance is getting an unpleasant bite or two rather than daily slatherings with known chemicals. I always try natural products whenever possible - especially skin products. Everything we rub all over ourselves seeps into our bodies then the less chemicals the better I think. I institute a great all natural sunscreen last summer. Information technology's called UV Natural Sunscreen. I bought it from www.katescaringgifts.com. It's non cheap only it worked really well for my family - and we accept pretty fair skin. It'due south SPF 30+. Fifty-fifty though it says that it'southward a non greasy formula, I did find information technology a lilliputian greasy just still worth using. I've also used Herbal Armor insect repellent which I got at Whole Foods I recall. It is Deet complimentary only I think it works pretty good. I promise this helps.
